Piggy's Bücher

These are mostly raw scans. Not all have PG clearances, but I believe that all of them are in the public domain. If you believe you own the copyright on one of these works, drop me a note.

If the work is already submitted for clearance to PG, there is a link to the clearance record. Otherwise, there is a note of "Rule 1", "Rule 5", or "Rule 6" depending on the way I expect to clear the copyright. These refer to the PG Copyright Howto. If I have not completed the Rule 6 research, you can only download tpvs.

If you would like to PM any of these books, let me know and I will mark them with your PGDP id.

Readable online

Books below with a "read" link have a simple page turning HTML wrapper. These are books for which I've completed the image processing. Some books have text and/or HTML editions in progress or completed. For convenience, those books are gathered here.

Books for Youth

German books

The core of this collection of German books comes from Martha and Frieda Hildebrandt. Both appear to have been students of German in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago in the early 20th Centrury. At least one appears to have gone on to become a German teacher. I bought their collection at a garage sale in the 1980s.

Missing Pages

Occassionally a PGDP project has missing or damaged pages. I live in Pittsburgh and have easy access to the many libraries in the area. If I can, I will scan the whole book including the missing pages.

A note about directories

These are in-progress works which I am preparing for various purposes. Here are some of the subdirectories you may find in each book directory in roughly process order:

See Greg's Week's Deskew Wiki for a detailed account of my page workflow.

Active Projects

These were projects I used to work on during my twice daily trolly commute or other spare moments. Since November 2006, I've been commuting by car to Cranberry, about an hour away. PGDP time is much harder to come by.

Queue

This is my work queue. Once upon a time, I pulled new items from here.

Once a book is ready for OCR, I will generally list it on the PGDP OCRPool Wiki.

The recognized central clearing house for online books is John Ockerbloom's Online Books Page.

Before beginning another book, I check David Price's PG in-progress list.

I've released a draft of fraktur training for tesseract-ocr. I've started a pass of the data using tesseractTrainer to find defects in my training data. I'm finding three-four errors per training page. See TrainingTesseract on how to do it yourself.
